The Communication Puzzle - Communicating Effectively with Children
(Can be tailored for communicating with any age group)
How can we communicate with a diverse population of children effectively? This interactive workshop provides skills necessary for communicating with children. Participants reflect on how they currently communicate and gain insight into how they can get through to children who aren’t always very responsive. This workshop includes some communication techniques that can be used with children struggling with behavioral and learning challenges. This workshop may be offered for Special Education Credit.
Conflict Resolution for Teachers (Part I and Part II)
This interactive workshop is designed to teach people how they can help children of all ages resolve their conflicts more effectively. Teachers learn techniques that help children resolve their conflicts in ways other than hitting and teasing. Teachers learn how to model conflict resolution techniques so that children are resolving conflicts in similar ways. Teachers also learn concrete ways in which they can teach children to use these same techniques. Teachers are given hands on ideas for games, art projects, and role plays that teach conflict resolution while children are having fun!
Conflict Resolution for Parents
This interactive workshop is designed to teach people how they can resolve their conflicts more effectively. The skills learned are transferable to family conflicts, internal conflicts, and workplace conflicts. Participants spend time reflecting on their own ways of dealing with conflict, realizing their strengths and weaknesses. Participants then learn problem solving techniques that can be used and shared with others. Participants leave this workshop with a better understanding of conflict in their lives and the skills they need to deal with them.
This workshop can also be offered at an advanced level.
Creating Caring Environments
Caring environments provide the foundation for effective communication and conflict resolution. These environments provide places where children feel cared for and safe. When children are in these environments they feel nurtured and they become better decision-makers. This workshop offers participants the opportunity to reflect on the environment they provide for children. Participants learn what a caring environment looks like and get concrete ideas for creating one.
Empowering Children, Building Self Esteem
People who feel empowered have higher levels of self-esteem regardless of age.
This workshop gives participants ways to help children become empowered. Empowerment and self-esteem are discussed through interactive exercises and reflection. Participants learn how their style of interaction with children directly effects each child’s level of self-esteem. This workshop provides time for discussing how to work with a diverse group of students with differing levels of self-esteem. Participants also learn about communication, conflict resolution, and other activities that empower young children.
The First Three Years - Brain Development with a Twist
This workshop gives participants an understanding of what is going on inside a child’s brain at a young age. Participants will gain insight into how they can work more effectively with children based on knowledge of the brain. This interactive workshop will also look at how the wiring in all of our brains is unique to all of us. Often times the behavior of newborns and adults is greatly influenced by the unique qualities all of our brains possess. These qualities influence our temperament, style of learning, and way of viewing our world

This interactive workshop is the same as the First Three Years except it includes school age brain development and challenges
Building a Caring, Engaging, and Creative School Age Program

Emotional Literacy - Why are Children Struggling with Understanding
More and more children are less and less in touch with their own emotions or the emotions of others. Families are busier and busier and when children enter elementary school there is little room for working on social skills. This interactive workshop delves into what emotional literacy means and ways we can teach children of all ages about emotions. Many challenging behaviors stem from a lack of knowledge not a desire on the part of the child to be challenging. Participants leave this workshop with a new perspective and ideas for helping children become more emotionally literate.

The Bullying Factor: Who, What, When, Where and Why?
Bullying has always been a problem and we are now seeing it grow more and more violent. The impact of bullying on children can be devastating and frustrating for parents and people working with children. During this workshop we will use interactive activities and dialogue to address this issue. Bullying is a complex problem and involves many children in many different ways. Participants will leave with a better understanding of bullying and concrete ideas for stopping and preventing it.
Encouraging Problem Solving
Imagine how empowered children would be if they had good problem solving skills! Children with good problem solving skills are able to make better choices in their lives. Come learn how to encourage problem solving in your interactions with children.
This workshop is best when offered as a two part series.
The Art of Communicating with Families
This workshop addresses the many different issues that arise when communicating with parents. Time is spent discussing the different issues that participants face and ways in which they can improve the lines of communication. This workshop gives participants the opportunity to learn effective communication techniques through interactive activities. Strategies are learned for turning destructive emotions into constructive emotions while communicating. Participants leave the workshop with new ideas and skills for welcoming parents into constructive dialogues.
